We continue our study with Matthew's Gospel, chapter two. In our face-to-face meeting I recommended that learners prepare and memorize a brief summary of each chapter as they work through them. For instance, for Matthew 1, I suggested something like "a genealogy of Jesus, and the description of his birth." With a simple outline like that in mind, it's easy to find passages again.
Read Matthew chapter two carefully.
Write down at least three questions you hope will be answered. As always, I urge you to post them in the comments of this blog post, and to engage with other people's questions yourself!
Read Albrecht's commentary on Matthew, pages 24-33.
See if you have any more questions or answers to put in the comments section.
Questions for Study and Discussion:
What does Matthew want us to think about with the "Magi"?
We often think of Matthew as showing Jesus to be the one who comes for the Jews. Who is he revealed to in chapter two?
What does King Herod seem to think of the Israelite people over whom he rules?
Can you find another Joseph in the Bible who goes to Egypt? How is he like Jesus or like Joseph, Mary's husband?
