Questions for Study and Discussion:
In verses 1-11 Jesus enters Jerusalem with crowds, a donkey colt, and people shouting. Try to explain the symbolic words and actions here.
Albrecht describes the cleansing of the temple in 21:12-13 as the second time Jesus did a similar act. Gibbs (2018) describes the likely location as an outdoor plaza. How did Jesus disrupt "business as usual?"
Actions make bold statements. What was Jesus saying when he simply allowed children to shout his praises?
In a similar vein, what is Jesus communicating when he curses the fig tree?
How is prayer a right (or wrong) use of God's name? (Consider the second commandment from Exodus 20.)
By verse 23 Jesus is clearly being questioned by people who wish to entrap him. How does this influence the interactions?
How do we interpret the fathers, sons, and others in the parables at the end of Matthew 21?
