Write down at least three questions you hope will be answered.
Read Albrecht's commentary on Matthew, pages 309-322.
See if you have any more questions or answers.
Questions for Study and Discussion:
In Matthew 22:1-14 we read the parable of the wedding feast. Albrecht makes a strongly detailed interpretation. This may raise suspicion. For example, on p. 311 he affirms the practice, undocumented, of a gift of wedding clothes. What is the big picture of the parable? How does this big picture help you read the rest of the parable?
From verse 15 onward, the questioning is not only hostile, but also designed to trap Jesus. Watch for patterns in his ways of answering questions.
How did Jesus' statement about giving Caesar what is Caesar's and giving God what is God's signal treason and lead to death?
Verses 23-33 bring up the question of resurrection and levirite marriage. Jesus' answer immediately rejects the viwe of the Sadducees. Find parallels to the Pharisees and Sadducees in modern Chrsitianity.
In verses 34-40, how des Jesus' anser affirm all the 10 Commandments?
Notice that Jesus ends the questioning by asking a question the teachers are unwilling to answer. He remains in control of the situations he is in.
