Schaff, Philip. "The Catechetical Part, Chs. I.-VI." The Oldest Church Manual Called the Teaching of the Twelve Apostles. Second Edition, Revised and Enlarged. New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1886, 17-18.
The Catechetical portion of the Didache consists of parabolic teaching "of Two Ways, the Way of Life and the Way of Death" (Schaff 1886, 17). The lessons are addressed to "my child," the learner. The Way of Life is taught both in positive and negative terms, with significant comparison to the second portion of the Ten Commandments. The Way of Death identifies both sins and sinners. The Two Ways narrative closes with warnings about false teachers and of participating in idolatrous feasts. Schaff considers this portion of the Didache to contain strong similarities to Matthew chapters 5-7 (Schaff 1886, 18).
