Schaff, Philip. "Aim and Contents of the Didache." The Oldest Church Manual Called the Teaching of the Twelve Apostles. Second Edition, Revised and Enlarged. New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1886, 16-17.
Schaff specifically considers the Didache to be a "Church Manual." This genre arose to prominence later than the time of the Didache, making this the earliest known work of its type (Schaff 1886, 16). Schaff divides the Didache into four parts as follows: Ch. 1-6, doctrine and catechesis, Cho. 7-10 and 14, liturgy and devotion, Ch. 11-13 and 15, church offices and discipline, Ch. 16, eschatological material (Schaff 1886, 17).
