Schaff reviewed an 1887 edition of the Didache which included an introduction, annotations, and a Latin version (Funk, Francis Xavier, Tubingen: Henrici Laupp, 1887). While the review is focused on the Funk edition, Schaff mentions that the bibliography provided is inferior to those in some American editions, and that publications have been released very quickly. Funk’s edition is to be considered important, especially his introduction. “The Prolegomena discuss the origin, genuineness, time and place, contents, editions and versions of the Didache and its relation to the cognate documents…” (Schaff 1888, 149). Funk dates the Didache in the first century.
Though this is a brief review it is helpful in evaluating the usefulness of the Funk edition.
