Many churches throughout the world use a Bible reading schedule called a "lectionary." It's just a fancy word meaning "selected readings." Posts like this reflect on the readings for an upcoming Sunday or other Church holiday, as found in the three-year lectionary.
We all realize the true fallen nature of the world when our furniture rearranges itself to trip us in the dark. The world is full of trouble and turmoil. In Isaiah 42:14-21 God pictures his people are those who are blind and in pain. They are sure to run into trouble. Their sorrow will increase if they are left to themselves.
What is God’s solution? He is going to make the world a safe place. The blind will not have anything to trip over. Darkness will become light. The idols who we once trusted will be shown as inadequate. the LORD will show himself as the one who can lead us through this life and into eternity.
This is tremendous good news. There is no need to be lost and wandering any more. Though God’s Law is often counterintuitive, it’s reliable. Jesus, who calls himself the way, the light, and the truth, shows himself as the conqueror of darkness, even death. As the light of the world, he graciously calls us to trust him. We don’t need to fear calamity any longer.
