The earliest Christians followed a Jewish tradition of pausing to pray, preferably together, first thing in the morning, about mid morning, at noon, about mid afternoon, and in the evening. “Just a Note” posts are brief observations made from Scripture readings not related to a lectionary. If I have one to post, it normally appears about 9:00 in the morning, at “the hour of prayer.”
What are our preconceptions about Jesus? He is the one who clearly says in John 6:41-51 that he came down from heaven, that he is the bread of life, that he is the one who gives eternal life and will raise the dead in the last day. He is the one who gives his body for the life of the world.
Are these words offensive? “My Jesus would never be that way.” Sorry, but your Jesus is not the one in the Bible. In the Bible, Jesus always speaks and acts like he is the supernatural God, creator, sustainer, and redeemer of all the world.
Its high time we laid down our preconceptions and allowed Jesus to speak.
