Kolb, Robert. The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2000.
Augsburg Confession V, “Concerning the Office of Preaching” p. 41.
The Augsburg Confession explains that God delivers faith to his people through preaching of the gospel. “It teaches that we have a gracious God, not through our merit but through Christ’s merit, when we so believe” (Kolb 2000, 41). The Confession condemns those “who teach that we obtain the Holy Spirit without the external word of the gospel” (Kolb 2000, p. 41).
The Apology to the Augsburg Confession combines article five with article four.
