Genesis 24 picks up the thread of God providing descendants for Abraham as a wife is sought for Isaac, now grown. “Abraham’s desire that Isaac not take a wife from the Canaanites appears to be a further expression of the notion of the two lines of blessing and curse seen in 9:25-27 (Sailhamer 1992, 181). In chapter 24 verses 12-14 the servant draws an elaborate picture of the sign he seeks to know who he is to bring back. Throughout the story, Abraham, the servant, Laban, Bethuel, and Rebekah all affirm that the Lord has made all the arrangements (Sailhamer 1992, 182).
